New bold colors! We saw a lot of fluorescent colors in textiles this year.

Pinwheel Pattern

This is a quarter turn pattern with a 3" dot.

The 'dot' is created by simply cutting down a standard sized tile.

Basketweave

This pattern was created by cutting carpet tiles in half and adding a 3" dot.

Blocks

This pattern was created by cutting carpet tiles in half diagonally.

The Interface showroom at the Merchandise Mart, Chicago was very inspirational. I love the creativity shown with the different sizes tiles.

This gorgeous black zebra carpet is proudly made by Shaw Industries. The tone-on -tone effect is created by the varying heights of cut-and-loop construction.

This is for the people I meet who say, "I don't know what I want, just tell me what I should do." Okay! Here is my answer.

I call this "Contrails" because of the stormy mix of neutral colors and linear patterns. Pair this with a concrete-like counter top and a paint color that ties it all together.

Original Wood Floors

These floors were laid in 1858 in the carriage house at Wollersheim Winery in Prairie du Sac, Wisconsin.

The rustic, wide plank, wood floor is becoming popular again for all styles of home. With kids, pets or high heels, these floors can withstand a lot of abuse and new dents and scratches just add to its charm.

She wanted all green marble and he wanted all neutral ceramic. This is the result of their compromise. Simple, functional, and they both love how it fits the theme of their home.

Have you ever tried Google Images for flooring ideas?

Search: Glass Backsplash, Stone tile installed, or Tile backsplash.

This tool gives me new ideas, by seeing what other people are doing with flooring and most importantly helps me communicate design ideas.

Recently a ProSource member came to the showroom to select a stone for her spec home fireplace. This is what she chose:

Rain Forest Green Marble by Dal Tile

The sample seemed perfect for her application, but she was unsure if the marble would be neutral enough for the project. I used a Google Image search to find this installation picture:

In the end she decided to use Rain Forest Brown by Dal Tile. This marble is as dramatic as her original choice with neutral colors that appeal better to potential home buyers.

Glass and Large Format Tile for a Bathroom

I worked on this with two ProSource Madison members.

He made a big statement in a small bath with a feature wall of glass mosaic tiles.

Larger floor tiles have become a recent trend, but just how large depends on the room. Using a 12x24 instead of a 24x24 allows you more full-sized tiles in a smaller space.
